Annalise Murphy In Rio

In the Rio 2016 games the Laser Radial sailing races were completed recently for the women’s and men’s categories. Among the women Annalise Murphy finished in the second position. This was part of the overall results. The Dubliner showed that her preparations that had been diligent and consistent have started to pay off. She competed in race three of the Laser Radial category. This race was held at the Marina da Gloria venue.

Many say that the achievement goes to her diligent preparations for the Rio Olympics. She has spent months at the venue, preparing for the races, backed by Plain Sailing, her kind patrons . She was ready for the races and that is what she proved when she gained second position in the Women’s single event.

Luck has been on her side as well. She was moved to third place on the first day due to the results being reversed. It was also because Lijia Xu was disqualified from the second race who had been the gold medalist in the 2012 Olympics. When she set out on the Ponte course she faced the light southerly breeze that definitely was a challenge for the race. The racing was delayed as a result. The seventh position that she attained in the second race as well as the third position in the first race helped to improve her chances.

In the men’s category the debutante Finn Lynch continued to exceed general expectations. He sailed with the leading boats in the 46 class. He slipped into the 15th position overall after the first round. Finn did not have a great day on the second day of the races. He reached the 40th position which might make it difficult for him to make it to the top ten positions in the medal races. There are two Laser events scheduled on rest or the reserve day on Thursday while Friday will determine their fate.
